Pennies for Poverty presents Music for Change, An Evening of Good Times and Good Tunes to Support our Neighbors in Need on Saturday, November 1 from 6:30-10:30 on the Belleville Stage, 300 High Street Newburyport. The evening includes a silent auction and three great acts playing, Americana, Bluegrass and Blues. All proceeds from the event benefit individuals and families in need in the Greater Newburyport Area. The evening is made possible, in part, by the generosity of our lead sponsor, The Institution for Savings, our corporate sponsor, Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank and the local businesses and farm stands that donated goods and services to the silent auction.
Liz Frame and the Kickers, well known for their rootsy Americana music headline the event. Liz and her band are quickly gaining a national following. They are featured in the cover story of the September 2014 Newburyport Magazine. Her most recent album, Sooner, has earned high praise from music industry commentators:
Once in a while an album cuts right to your heart. Liz Frame and the Kickers, Sooner, is that record….Frame has immense talent and the musicianship from the Kickers is stellar. (Steve Morse, former staff music critic, The Boston Globe)
Liz Frame is one of the most compelling, interesting and emotive voices I have heard in a long, long time… She’s someone who has to be heard. (Marian Leighton-Levy, Rounder Records founder)
Also featured are the music of High Rock Mountain and Danielle Miraglia.
High Rock Mountain is returning to Newburyport after last year’s enthusiastically-received concert for the Screening Room. They play traditional broken-hearted Bluegrass with freshness and groove. The members of the band come from all over the country to perform together and to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Danielle Miraglia (murr-Ä L e a) comes armed with a strong steady thumb on an old Gibson, an infectious stomp-box rhythm and harmonica. Her tunes range from heart-felt to socially conscious and will move both your heart and hips. Her latest release Box of Troubles, a bare-bones expression of all these attributes, explores the highs and lows that life has to offer and has already received rave reviews.
This is a not-to-be-missed community event. Come mingle with friends. Enjoy the music. Explore the great finds at the silent auction. And know that your participation benefits our neighbors in need.
