Join Pennies for Poverty and Belleville Roots Music at the Belleville Stage on Saturday, October 11, at 8 pm as we welcome internationally-renowned singer-songwriter, Doug Seegers, to our community. Seegers is a brilliant musician who suffered from homelessness for years. Belleville Roots Music is using the occasion of his concert on October 11 to recognize some of the local organizations who help those in need. Listen to Doug’s music here. We think you’ll agree it will be a great concert.
Seegers found acclaim after being discovered by a Swedish film-making team which was doing a documentary about down-and-out street musicians in Nashville. Each week, the local food pantry had a singer-songwriter night and it was there that the team discovered Seegers. They recorded his music and it received airplay in Sweden, quickly rising to #1 on the national album charts. After a successful Sweden tour, he is now touring the US and generating much media interest, including a story in The Wall Street Journal and an upcoming feature on NPR’s Morning Edition.
As a community partner for this event, we believe his inspirational story and his deeply personal music resonates with all of us and, through this shared musical experience, we can help raise awareness of the homelessness and poverty that exists right here in our own community. Pennies for Poverty will have a table in the hospitality area and we hope you’ll stop by and say hello.
