Don’t miss The Chicken Slacks on stage at Pennies for Poverty’s Music for Change Fundraiser on Saturday, November 3rd, at the Elks Lodge in Newburyport. The Chicken Slacks are known for energetic, non-stop soul and rhythm and blues skillfully arranged with a powerhouse vocalist and a charismatic emcee.

You won’t want to miss this rare Newburyport appearance of The Chicken Slacks. Based in Boston and holding a regular residency at the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge, they are a popular seven-piece R&B band inspired by the classic Stax, Motown and Muscle Shoals recordings of the ’60s and ’70s as well as funk classics and a few gems from New Orleans.

Starting at 6:30, the Music for Change Fundraiser offers a selection of appetizers and desserts catered by For the Love of Food and Drink, based in Wells, ME and serving southern Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. They are known for their fresh local menus and unique style.

You’ll find something for everyone at the large silent and live auctions. Enjoy a cash bar.  Bring your dancing shoes or take in the evening sitting at a reserved table with friends. It is sure to be a great time!

Don’t miss being part of this community event. Tickets will be available in online (for no fee) in late July or may be purchased at Greetings by Design (1 Rear Water Street) in September.

Get in the swing of this important fundraiser by becoming a Patron of Music for Change ($100). Your name will be listed in the event program that is carefully perused by attendees to review auction items and learn more about local service organizations. Businesses can also buy ads in the program ($125 to $500). All proceeds from this event go directly to address urgent needs and underfunded programs at local anti-poverty organizations. A special “fund a need” part of the live auction will be designated for emergency housing assistance.
